One of the biggest complaints about the Wii U version was that it lacked the four characters added to the Japanese arcade version after launch: Croagunk, Empoleon, Darkrai, and Scizor. Pokkén Tournament DX rectified this by including all of them from day one, plus an entirely new Switch-exclusive fighter, Decidueye. The game also includes the arcade version's balance changes and gameplay refinements.

Originally released for the Wii U in 2016, Pokkén Tournament was a unique one-on-one arena fighter developed by Bandai Namco, the studio behind legendary franchises like Tekken and SoulCalibur . But the Wii U version, while solid, lacked the additional fighters and updates that were released for the Japanese arcade version. The Switch port, Pokkén Tournament DX , changed everything by consolidating all arcade content, adding new fighters and modes, and making the definitive Pokémon fighting experience portable.
Pokkén Tournament DX is often called the "definitive edition" because it combines the best of everything that came before.
