Kodak Preps 10 -
For the uninitiated, imposition is the process of arranging multiple pages on a single press sheet so that after folding, cutting, and binding, the pages appear in the correct numerical order. Doing this manually in a vector editor is a nightmare. Kodak Preps automates this.
Packaging printers face complex challenges with non-rectangular shapes, nested dies, and stepping. Preps 10 introduces improved algorithms for nesting CAD files (such as CF2 and DXF), reducing substrate waste through tighter packing of irregular dielines. Native Apple Silicon and Modern OS Support
Perhaps the most significant change with Preps 10 is the licensing model. system in favor of a software-based approach. This modern method allows licenses to be managed and activated directly on the workstation without the need for physical USB keys, offering greater flexibility and security.
Engineered for modern computing environments, Preps 10 features native optimization for the latest operating systems, including full compatibility with Apple Silicon (M-series chips) and Windows 11. This translation into architecture results in faster rendering times and snappier interface responsiveness when handling massive multi-gigabyte files. Preps 10 is the latest version of this venerable software, and it is designed to work in both standalone environments and as an integrated component of the Kodak Prinergy Workflow. For decades, Preps has been a critical tool in commercial printing, publishing, and packaging and labeling operations, helping professionals maximize sheet usage, reduce errors, and shorten turnaround times.
Preps 10 introduces critical infrastructure and performance updates aimed at handling modern hardware environments and eliminating processing bottlenecks: 1. Hardware and OS Compatibility system in favor of a software-based approach
A smooth upgrade to Preps 10 requires some preparation, particularly for users coming from versions older than 5.3. Versions prior to 5.3 did not have SmartMark functionality. To make the transition painless, it is highly recommended to re-create any static marks as SmartMarks in your current Preps version before upgrading. Doing so will ensure these marks migrate to Preps 10 and are immediately available for use. If you skip this step, Preps 10 will automatically convert static marks to SmartMarks when you open migrated jobs or templates, but these converted marks will not be saved to the resource library.
