Pattern resolution is intended to match native resolution of the display. At any other resolutions where the pattern size is scaled to the display size scaling artifacts will render many patterns useless. If your viewing program supports a scaling factor of 1:1, that is, one pixel in the image maps to one pixel in the display, then patterns not matching the display resolution will show without artifacts but intent of some of the patterns will not be attained.
Here are links to zip files containing test patterns for HDTV and common monitor resolutions. Each zip file contains 206 unique patterns arranged in groups by file name. These files are named with the actual resolution and a descriptive resolution identifier taken from a Wikipedia article.
* Caution - Huge file: 257,371,010 bytes.
The tables below describe the groups that make up the files in the above zip files. The images are examples of typically a subset of the contents of a group. They are not links to the full size images, which are only available in the zip files. This is because of the amount of room the uncompressed files in all the resolutions would consume.
The thumbnails (160x100) in the examples show artifacts arising from the small size. These do not appear in the full-size images.
These patterns are intended for a quick, overall assessment or check of a display. The use of the term checkers is unrelated to the term check. Checkers refers to an alternating black/white pattern similar to a checkers board and is frequently used with gamma patterns. Check refers to assessment or evaluation.
The true heart of nature-based Christmas traditions in France lies in the southern region of . The season, known as La Calendale , runs from December 4th (the feast day of Saint Barbe) to February 2nd (Candlemas Day). Saint Barbe, associated with the element of fire, opens this period of the year's longest nights.
Tables are set with unbleached linen runners, raw clay pottery, and simple beeswax candles.
The main celebration occurs on Christmas Eve ( la veille de Noël ) with a late-night feast called le Réveillon . Traditions:
: Russians follow the Julian calendar for religious holidays, placing Christmas 13 days after the Western date. The "Holy Supper" : Christmas Eve (January 6) features a 12-course meatless meal representing the 12 apostles. Kutya (Sochivo) enature russian bare french christmas celebration new
As the night wore on, the celebration grew more and more raucous. A group of carolers, their voices raised in joyful song, stumbled through the snow, their breath misting in the cold air. They sang of love, of life, and of the eternal cycle of birth and death.
The visual presentation of a French Christmas relies on understated elegance rather than overly commercialized decoration. The philosophy focuses on natural elements, warm lighting, and historical reverence.
Common dishes include oysters, foie gras, and the iconic Bûche de Noël (Yule log cake). Greetings: People say "Joyeux Noël" . The true heart of nature-based Christmas traditions in
France's Christmas markets are the stuff of legend. These festive bazaars, known as , spring up in cities and towns from late November through December. The most famous of these is in Strasbourg, Alsace , which dates back to the 16th century. These markets are a sensory feast, with wooden huts selling everything from handcrafted toys and ornaments to vin chaud (hot wine) and local delicacies. The Strasbourg Christmas market is so iconic that it has been replicated around the world, even traveling to Tokyo.
The word “bare” isn’t just about decor; it is a mindset. In our hyper-commercialized world, both Russian Dusha (soul) and French Joie de vivre (joy of living) get lost in shopping lists.
Imagine a modern holiday celebration that honors these cultural elements: Tables are set with unbleached linen runners, raw
Instead of Santa Claus, the dual figures of Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) and his granddaughter, Snegurochka (The Snow Maiden), deliver gifts. Snegurochka represents a unique, distinctively Russian element of winter folklore.
When we think of Christmas and New Year’s, images of plastic tinsel, overcrowded malls, and artificial lights often come to mind. But a growing movement—let’s call it the philosophy—is stripping away the commercial excess to reveal something raw, authentic, and deeply connected to the natural world.
Decorate with natural, "bare" elements—a, bare fir tree decorated only with white lights and wooden ornaments, bringing in the peaceful "natural" feel.
This is where “enature” (embracing nature) truly shines. You are hosting a dinner that feels both rustic and refined.
The "enature" or "bare" aspect draws inspiration from traditional Russian celebrations, which often emphasize the beauty of a harsh, snowy winter.

Many years ago I posted some HDTV test patterns to Flickr. They were quite popular, received quite a few hits, and were probably linked from another site but I never found where.
In December, 2013, I wrote a new generating program in Python, included several composite images, many geometric and color images and used descriptive file names. These were, and continue to be, some of my most popular images on Flickr but at Flickr they were only in a resolution of 1920x1080.
In March, 2023, I converted the generating program from Python2 to Python3 correct a bug causing vertical lines in one of the color images, changed the name of the image files, updated the resolutions, and added many new patterns including the inverse of several.
29 Dec 2023 - Replaced WUXGA-1900x1200 with WUXGA-1920x1200. Original was in error. Thanks, Shawn, for pointing this out.
